Dr Michael Savic
Senior Research Fellow (Addiction Studies) and Strategic Lead of the Clinical and Social Research Team, Turning Point and Monash University
Overview
Michael’s research focuses on the social and cultural contexts of alcohol and other drug use, addiction concepts, treatment and experiences of intervention implementation and care across several mediums. His research is multi-disciplinary in orientation, policy and practice relevant, and often draws on critical approaches and qualitative methods. Some of his current/recent projects include:
- Alcohol consumption in crisis (funded by the Australian Research Council)
- Animating alcohol culture change amongst male hospitality students and workers (funded by VicHealth)
- Alcohol and other drug treatment clients’ experiences of telehealth during the COVID-19 pandemic (funded by the Department of Health)
He also coordinates units in the Monash University Graduate Program of Addictive Behaviours and supervises several PhD and honours students.
Background
Michael joined Turning Point in 2011 after completing his PhD in Public Health at the University of Adelaide in 2010.
