Overview
This webinar is aimed at AOD workers and other people who work with people who use opioids and/or people who may witness an opioid overdose. It will support workers to identify opioid overdose risk and engage with at-risk clients and/or community members to help them prevent, recognise and respond to opioid overdose.
Specifically, it will cover:
- Identifying opioid overdose risk factors
- Speaking with clients about overdose
- Naloxone formulations and action
- Opioid overdose prevention
- Recognising and responding to opioid overdose.

Presenter
Crios O'Mahony, Workforce Development Lead, Penington Institute
Crios O’Mahony has worked with alcohol and other drug users for more than 25 years in the UK and Australia. In London, he worked with rough sleepers in drop in centres, night and cold weather shelters and long-term homeless hostels as well as in the justice system. In Melbourne, Crios was the team leader of an alcohol and other drug outreach team in the Northern suburbs of Melbourne. Crios worked for several years on Needle and Syringe Programs including a mobile, street-based service in Melbourne's CBD and a mobile service in the northern and western suburbs.
Crios is also Penington Institute’s lead trainer for agencies working with drug users across the country and regularly works with Needle and Syringe programs (NSPs) throughout Victoria.
