This webinar brings to light how we can provide sensitive and appropriate services and treatment pathways for Trans & Gender Diverse people.
Including a presentation by Sally Goldner from Transgender Victoria, this webinar will cover an introduction to gender diversity differentiating sexual orientation, intersex status, gender identity and expressions.
Also highlighted are key areas of disadvantage and discrimination experienced by trans and gender diverse people and related mental health impacts. Legislative obligations, tips and suggestions on working with trans and gender diverse people are also included.
Within this webinar we will also have an interview with a panellist, Christie, who has a lived experience of alcohol and other drugs dependence and navigating supports and treatment through the AOD service sector as a non-binary person.
There will be time allocated for Q & A.
Objectives
- Introduce clinicians to an understanding of gender diversity and differentiate sexual orientation from gender.
- Provide clinicians with an understanding of the vulnerabilities specific to Trans and Gender Diverse people and align with a harm reduction framework.
- Define where clinicians may become aware of gender diversity through specific points within intake, assessment and treatment pathways.
- How to apply this knowledge and have sensitive conversations and make accurate referrals for trans and gender diverse people.

Presenter
Sally Goldner’s twenty years involvement in Victoria’s LGBTIQ communities includes Transgender Victoria, co-facilitating Transfamily, presenting 3CR’s “Out of the Pan” and as Bisexual Alliance Victoria Treasurer.
Sally was awarded an Order of Australia in 2019, is a life member of 4 organisations, the 2015 LGBTI Victorian of the year and joined the Victorian Women’s Honour Roll in 2016.
Panelist
Christie has a passion for all things social justice and storytelling. They have over 15 years of experience in Melbourne’s theatre scene and have recently become active in the CS sector. They hope to channel their experiences of living on the margins and through many crises into meaningful change.
